Some (sort of) good news for the Cardinals

Arizona receiver Anquan Boldin didn't get the worst news on his injured hamstring, but he still might not play Saturday in Carolina.

Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt told reporters this afternoon that Boldin had a strained hamstring. His status is uncertain for the NFC divisional playoff game, the AP is reporting. A torn hamstring would have finished Boldin's season.

"We'll see how it goes this week," Whisenhunt said.

Boldin was hurt Saturday on a 71-yard touchdown reception in the second quarter of Arizona's 30-24 win over Atlanta.

"When you're dealing with hamstrings, you never know," Whisenhunt said. "I've seen guys that have come back and played a couple of days later. I've seen guys who are out three or four weeks."

Steve Breaston will likely replace Boldin as a starter if he can't go, with Jerheme Urban as the No. 3 receiver. As we reported earlier, that lineup has worked well this season for the Cardinals.

Boldin impressed teammates and fans earlier this season by missing only two games with facial fractures after a brutal collision against the Jets. Cardinals defensive end Bertrand Berry, a guest on the Dan Patrick radio show this morning, told the host that Boldin would be "probable" Saturday if he had an amputated leg.

  1. He'll play. You can bet the farm on that. They'll shoot him up with a few IVs and cortisone and whatever injectable you can think of...he'll be on that field.

  2. I'm sure he will play, but again, the question is how close he is to 100%.

  4. Boldin will play. A strain hamstring is not going to keep in out of this game. Fitzgerald and Boldin will both go over 100 yards and TDs.

  5. They may get a 100 yards and a couple of TD but they still going to lose. Panthers always find away to win

Maybe to keep things even, we'll rest boldin, and james, and maybe not even run the ball. Maybe we'll just pass all night long. Hopefully that should even things up.

  15. This should be the best game this weekend. The preview set it up - as did Atlanta's looking past Arizona to this game. You Panther fans can go ahead and look ahead too, but if your coach and/or team does, they will also be cleaning out their lockers after the game, just like the Falcons did. I know, the Cardinals just won the worst division in the NFL, backed into the playoffs, etc etc, but they beat Atlanta, Dallas, Miami, Buffalo etc and nearly beat the Panthers earlier in the year. Some respect is due from both sides. I just hope the game is decided by the players, not by bad calls from the officials. May the best team win, and may that team be the Arizona Cardinals!

  16. Hey cards fans, the east coast doesn't like you and the cats are aware that you think you can steal one in the east, wrong. Just remember cats 8-0 at home and kards 0-5 in the east during the regular season, huh, huh,huh,...

  17. Anonym-ass,

chirp....chirp...chirp....you must be the mascot as much chirping as you are doing....probably the only way you would come to Charlotte....to be safetly on the field and behind a mask....i like your compassion for your team but it's not working....we did get beat 4 times this year ....on the road...i hear the forecast is for rain...now maybe your boy Warner will have a reason to wear those gloves ...what a joke...your back up might need to be ready if he's not out to late this week partying with the college girls doing beer bongs....hmmmm....Panther's 34 Cards 31...Kasay by a leg....good luck you dipstick....

    ReplyDelete
  18. Mr KEEP POUNDING OFF,

Yeah, don't worry about us. Worry about the rain, and the mask. Work on your sentences. Keep the run on sentences comin. Panthers by 3 points now huh? Before too long you'll be sayin, "cardinals by 3". Then we'll see who'll be laughin at that joke!

  19. Be careful what you wish for...The Cards have absolutely nothing to lose and I watched the Falcons tighten up when they got behind. Yes, they came back and took the lead, but the defense made a play, and on long drive and the game was over.

Should be a great one! The Panthers are good, no question, but the Cards are also in the second round of the playoffs. The same cannot be said of the Patriots, Cowboys, Bucs, Bears, NYJ and the Broncos. GIve your opponent some respect, or they are liable to smack you in the mouth. The Falcons found that out

  20. If anyone recalls the prior matchup between the panthers and the cards.. the cards lost by four points. after leading 17-3. The cardinals loss was a coaching error. if anyone recalls the cards drove down the field twice got in the red zone and went for it on fourth down giving up six points. then in the forth the cards had two turnovers that cost them the game. If coach wiz had settled on those 6 points and the game played ut the same. well the easy math kids 6-4=2..cards win by 2.. Dont look to see Coach Wiz making to many more mistakes like that.
